Powered vs. Manual: Is One Better for You?

Posted .

You’ve probably heard about the importance of cleaning your smile. You’ve may have been told that you should brush and floss every day, and that you should visit your dentist frequently. But with all of the dental care products available, what should you use to clean your smile? More specifically, should you consider a powered toothbrush instead of a manual? Or a water pick instead of traditional floss?

For many people, powered and manual options tend to work about as well, but there are times when powered options are better. For instance, an electric toothbrush may be better for individuals with arthritis or other conditions that make it difficult to use your hands. Similarly, if you have braces, an electric toothbrush may work better for you. Finally, we recommend using a manual toothbrush if you find them more comfortable. If you are more comfortable when you are for your smile, you’re more likely to brush for the recommended two minutes.

Bu what happens if you struggle with flossing? Unfortunately, it can be a fairly common problem. Some people struggle to navigate the floss through their teeth or have a hard time reaching the back of their smile. Luckily, a water pick will shoot a stream of water; all you have to do is follow your gum line and aim between your teeth. In fact, many people find it easier to reach the back of their smile with a water pick, and some people find this tool refreshing.

Really, when you clean your smile, you should consider your comfort. If you find that an electric toothbrush or a water pick are more comfortable, feel free to use them. If you are interested in learning more, please feel free to contact us today. We are excited to hear from you.
