Cleaning Your Tongue

Posted .

When is the last time you cleaned your tongue? If you answer is “never”, then read on, cleaning your tongue can have some real advantages. And cleaning your tongue is not that difficult.

Millions of bacteria accumulate on your tongue. Don’t take it personally. Everyone has this problem. Cleaning your tongue can curb those bacteria and give you fresher breath and a healthier mouth. A cleaner tongue can also help you to enjoy your food more since it will be easier to taste it.

You can clean your tongue with your toothbrush. Simply start by starting at the back of your tongue and working your way forward, making sure to clean the sides as well. However, your tongue has grooves on it, which the bristles may not be able to reach, although some toothbrushes have a tongue cleaner on the reverse side of the head. A tongue brush, however, is specifically designed to get into the grooves of your tongue and remove the food debris, bacteria and film. You can also use a tongue scraper. This is a thin piece of plastic and metal. You simply pull the scraper from the back of your tongue forward. No matter if you use your toothbrush, a tongue brush or a tongue scraper, make sure you clean it thoroughly after each use.
